Microsoft Intune Plan 1 vs Jamf Pro: Features and Cost

Start with Microsoft Intune Plan 1 for a mixed Windows, Apple and Android fleet, especially if you already own Microsoft 365 Business Premium, which includes it. Standalone, Intune Plan 1 is $8 per user per month. Choose Jamf Pro when Apple devices are the main job and your team needs deeper Mac workflows and self-service.

At a glance

  • Intune Plan 1: $8/user/month standalone; included in Microsoft 365 Business Premium, E3 and E5.
  • 25 users on standalone Intune: $200/month or $2,400/year.
  • Jamf is quoted per device or per user depending on package; compare on the same basis.

The right comparison is Intune Plan 1 versus Jamf Pro—not every Microsoft security product versus every Jamf product. Additional identity, endpoint-security, and remote-support products change both capability and cost.

What will 25 users actually cost?

At the standalone reference price, 25 Intune Plan 1 users cost $200 per month, or $2,400 for a year. That is a license calculation, not the cost of deploying or administering the service.

If those same users already have Microsoft 365 Business Premium with Intune rights, adding another standalone Intune subscription may duplicate an existing entitlement. The incremental license cost can therefore be zero for an already-covered user, while deployment and ongoing support still have a cost. Check assignments rather than assuming that every person is covered.

Jamf should be quoted for the actual Apple fleet and subscription package. Ask whether the commercial unit is a device, a user, or a bundle and how shared equipment is treated. A per-device proposal and a per-user proposal cannot be compared by multiplying both by employee headcount. Twenty-five employees may collectively use far more than twenty-five Apple devices.

Do not subtract the cost of an entire Microsoft productivity suite just because Jamf will manage the Macs. Employees may still need Outlook, desktop Office, Teams, or Microsoft identity services. Replacing management software does not automatically replace those licenses.

Match the purchase to the work IT performs

For a mixed Windows and mobile fleet, Intune reduces the need to create separate management processes simply because employees use different device brands. Begin by proving the actual policies: encryption, screen lock, operating-system updates, app installation, and removal of company access when someone leaves.

For a Mac-heavy operation, demonstrate the recurring Apple tasks in Jamf Pro. A useful pilot includes installing a required app, offering an optional app through self-service, grouping devices by inventory information, and correcting a configuration. Count technician steps and failures rather than judging a management console by its appearance.

Use the same tasks in both pilots. If a workflow needs an extra product, script, integration, or technician action, record that cost. Neither vendor's wider product catalog should be counted as a feature of the specific plan being quoted.

Company-owned and personal devices need different policies

Automated enrollment is useful for business-owned hardware, but it depends on the device being correctly assigned in the platform's enrollment service. A laptop purchased outside that process may require additional work. Include enrollment registration in the hardware order when available.

A personal phone raises a different requirement: protect company information while respecting the employee's ownership of the device. Intune app-protection features may help in supported applications, but that does not mean every app or operating system behaves the same way. Test the actual email and document apps employees use.

Decide what a departure action should remove before deployment. Selective removal of company data, retiring a managed device, and erasing an entire device are different operations. A management platform is useful only when the administrator has chosen the correct workflow and permissions.

The decision for your business

Choose Intune first when cross-platform coverage and existing Microsoft entitlements are the strongest advantages. Choose Jamf Pro when demonstrated Apple workflows justify the additional or alternative cost. A combined environment can also make sense, provided the responsibilities and licenses are clear.

For a decision-ready proposal, Sigma can compare the covered users and devices, the required products, the enrollment work, and the ongoing administration. The useful outcome is a supported device workflow at a known cost—not a longer list of software names.

When Business Premium beats buying Intune separately

Microsoft 365 Business Standard ($14) plus standalone Intune Plan 1 ($8) costs $22 per user per month, the same as Business Premium, which also includes Entra ID P1 and Defender for Office 365 Plan 1. If you need Intune for Business Standard users, price the Premium upgrade before buying Intune on its own.

Questions to ask before you buy

  • Which users already have Intune through Microsoft 365 Business Premium or E3?
  • How many Macs, iPhones, Windows PCs and Android devices do we manage?
  • Is Jamf priced per device or per user in the quote?
  • Are devices registered for automated enrollment at purchase?

What Hawaiʻi businesses should check

For staff spread across islands, automated enrollment lets new devices ship straight to employees and configure themselves, which avoids routing every laptop through one office.
