HubSpot vs Salesforce Starter: Price, Seats and Sales Tools

HubSpot Sales Hub Starter lists at $20 per seat per month, and HubSpot currently advertises lower annual-plan pricing. Salesforce Starter Suite costs $25 per user per month and bundles sales, service and marketing tools. Choose HubSpot for a focused sales pipeline; choose Salesforce Starter when you want those three functions in one entry-level suite.

The important difference is scope

If the immediate problem is tracking leads and follow-ups for a small sales team, HubSpot Starter is a reasonable shortlist. If the company also wants basic service and marketing processes in the same initial purchase, Salesforce Starter’s broader suite scope deserves a demonstration.

Neither entry edition should be sold as a fully customized enterprise CRM. The danger is choosing an affordable base package and discovering that a necessary integration, approval process or reporting requirement forces a major upgrade.

For five users, the regular reference calculation is $100 a month for HubSpot and $125 for Salesforce. That $25 difference can be smaller than one necessary add-on. Price the actual process before treating either vendor as the cheaper solution.

A demonstration that exposes the limits

Use a real inquiry from the website. Create the contact, assign it to a person, schedule follow-up, produce the required quote or handoff, and report its status to the manager. Then test duplicate handling and access for someone who should see only their own work.

If a required step needs a higher tier, record that immediately and compare the revised package. A sales demonstration should not silently use Professional features while the quote names Starter.

Implementation and growth costs

Budget data cleanup, import, field mapping and employee training separately from subscriptions. Also identify which users need paid access and what the next meaningful upgrade costs. HubSpot’s Professional edition and Salesforce’s Pro Suite are different products from the two Starter offers here.

Choose the system that completes the first real workflow with the fewest unsupported workarounds. A low entry price is useful only if the company can operate within the entry edition.

Questions to ask before you buy

  • What must the CRM do on day one: pipeline, quotes, service tickets or email campaigns?
  • Which integrations are required, and are they available in the Starter edition?
  • Is the quoted price introductory, and what is the renewal price?
  • Who will import and clean existing contact data?

Frequently asked questions

Is free CRM enough?
